Diagnostic Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a non-invasive way of imaging for the diagnostic evaluation of body compartments, organs, and soft tissue structures to access health and disease states. Ultrasound is vital in diagnostic workups, allowing visualization for noninvasive biopsies. We offer our clients:

  • Abdominal ultrasound
  • Thoracic and cervical ultrasound
  • Echocardiograms and pericardial imaging
  • Vascular ultrasound and portosystemic shunt identification
  • Portal vein and aortic thrombus Doppler scanning
  • Pulmonary hypertension indirect measurement
  • Ultrasound-guided needle and Tru-cut biopsy
  • Ultrasound-guided thoracocentesis, abdominocentesis, and pericardiocentesis
  • Ultrasound-guided abscess percutaneous drainage
Non-invasive Gastroenterology

Endoscopy is a service that allows for noninvasive and accurate diagnostic investigation into your pet’s chronic vomiting, diarrhea, poor appetite, or weight loss.
Therapeutic endoscopy can allow for the successful retrieval of foreign bodies in the esophagus and stomach.
Interventional endoscopy can be utilized to relieve strictures and place stents.

Cancer Medicine

We provide consultations, noninvasive biopsies for tumor grading, and metastasis staging for epithelial, round cell, and connective tissue cancers. We understand the heartache and hardship many families go through when a member is diagnosed with such a formidable illness.

Treatments offered include:

  • Chemotherapy with minimal side effects
  • Multidrug IV protocols
  • Electrochemotherapy
  • Outpatient metronomic therapy
  • Immunotherapy via tumor vaccine
  • Cancer growth factor blockade – TKI
  • Nutrition assistance
  • Assertive cancer pain control
    Electrochemotherapy
Electrochemotherapy has received considerable attention in the last few years as an emerging therapeutic. Until recently ECT has been confined to outside the United States, but this is now changing our ability to treat certain tumors more effectively and non-invasively. Electrochemotherapy involves combining a chemotherapy agent and the delivery of an electrical field directly to the tumor, sparing the rest of the body. The tumor is exposed to an electric field for a few milliseconds, which causes the tumor cells to become porous for up to an hour after the procedure and allows for up to a thousand-fold increase in local absorption of the chemotherapy. Patients are usually anesthetized so they do not feel any discomfort during treatment. Each treatment is relatively short, performed on an outpatient basis, and repeated only on an as-needed basis. One benefit of electrochemotherapy is the possibility of repeated treatments in case of local recurrence. In veterinary medicine, electrochemotherapy is most used for tumors located in or just under the skin. Leg and tail tumors can be treated that are not amendable to surgery or have undergone surgery resulting in an incomplete removal. The types of tumors treated include, but are not limited to; melanomas, perianal and rectal tumors, squamous cell carcinoma, soft tissue sarcomas, mast cell tumors, oral tumors, and nasal tumors. Potential side effects to this modality of treatment are localized and may include; skin reactions such as redness, edema (swelling), and necrosis (death) of tissue. Follow-up visits are recommended to ensure the site is responding to treatment and healing.
    Respiratory Medicine

We offer thoracic ultrasound, upper airway, tracheal, and bronchoscopic video examination. These exams allow us to do lung biopsies, airway cultures, rhinoscopy, and PCR (DNA) testing, which allow for the diagnosis of acute and chronic respiratory diseases.
